Lineo Solutions, Inc. (Lineo) announces that Takayasu Ito, Technical Expert of Lineo has been appointed as a Yocto Project Ambassador at the Yocto Project Summit held on October 29, 2020.
The Yocto Project is an open source project under the Linux Foundation, and is a development environment for customizing and building Linux distributions for embedded devices.
Many of the leading embedded Linux providers adopt the Yocto Project due to its flexibility and versatility.
Yocto Project Ambassador is selected twice a year. In the selection criteria, nominees are evaluated on their contribution in 3 categories: "Education and Teaching", "Communication and Community Outreach", and "Initiative and Technical Leadership".
While most of the Yocto Project documentation is available only in English, Lineo and Ito have been leading activities to promote Yocto Project in Japanese with excellent technical leadership, and such achievements are highly recognized. Ito is the first Yocto Project Ambassador in the Asia Pacific area.
Ito has been engaged in open source systems since the time of window system X10, and as an Technical Expert at Lineo, developing a wide range of embedded systems from the kernel layer to the application layer.
Ito started his various activities concerning the Yocto Project in 2016. He regularly holds hands-on seminar using BeagleBone Black "Yocto Super Practice Course", which specializes in technical skills and it has become one of the most compelling Yocto-related seminars in Japan.
To promote the Yocto Project, Ito also runs "Yocto BBQ", a QA site since 2017, and actively responding to user inquiries.
Moreover, Ito is an active participant in the Yocto Project mailing list.
Among the Yocto Project member companies, Lineo is the only Japanese company in the service/software field, taking initiative in promotional activities of the Yocto Project in Japan.
