LINEO DEMONSTRATED REAL-TIME SUPPORT
WITH LINUX ON i386 VIA EPIA-M BOARD AT CELF BOOT FEST
- Hard Real-Time with Linux -

LAS VEGAS, January 9 - Lineo Solutions, Inc. (Lineo), a leading provider of embedded Linux solutions, today demonstrated i386 Architecture support, based on Lineo uLinux Consumer Electronics Edition (CE Edition), on the VIA EPIA-ME6000, at the Boot Fest session of the CELF (CE Linux Forum) Plenary Meeting held in Las Vegas.

"As Lineo has several technological implementation proposals applicable to CE Linux requirements such as fast-boot and power-save framework," said Akira Kobayashi, Executive Director, Engineering, Lineo Solutions, Inc. "I focused, here at the Boot Fest, to demonstrate hard real-time support with Linux that is one of the priority requirements by CELF."

Deterministic time metrics of the systems demonstrated (VIA EPIA-ME6000 with i386 compatible EDEN CPU 600MHz Bus Clock 66MHz) is as follows.
  Interrupt Response Time 5 microseconds
  Task Latency Time 4 microseconds
Periodic Task Latency Time 20 microseconds
Timer Clock Accuracy 1 microsecond, Jitter 1 microsecond)

"Availability of the embedded Linux code running on i386-architecture-based board systems should provide common platform for the developer of embedded Linux systems and applications in the
industry and in the Linux community to evaluate the technologies and implementations in satisfying CELF requirements," said Yoshinobu Ushiyama, President and CEO, Lineo Solutions, Inc., "I believe it also contributes to understand the status of patches in CELF Source Tree against ever-developing Linus kernels."

Lineo is fully committed to the advancement of CELF and its activities. At the Boot Fest, Lineo also provided SH Architecture code base with uLinux CE Edition for the demonstration of SH4 2D Graphics Systems presented by Renesas Technology Corp. and for the demonstration presented by Mitsubishi Electric Corporation. Lineo will make further efforts to enhance CELF CE Linux Source Tree by supporting wider variety of major embedded core architectures, so that OEMs can develop and market the Linux-based consumer electronics devices to enrich the ubiquitous network environment with varieties of applications.

"I am very pleased to see Lineo's early contribution to the CE LinuxForum", said Scott Smyers, Vice President of the Network and Systems Architecture Division of Sony Electronics Inc., and chairman of the CELF Steering Committee. "I very much look forward to Lineo's continued participation in CELF".
