LINEO RELEASES EVALUATION PACKAGE FOR
POSIX-COMPLIANT MICRO RT KERNEL TARGETED FOR ONE-CHIP MICROCOMPUTER

TOKYO, December 15 - Lineo Solutions, Inc. (Lineo), a leading provider of embedded Linux solutions, today announced the release of Lineo uBooster Starter Package for H8S, an evaluation kit for Lineo uBooster, POSIX-compliant micro RT kernel specifically developed for one-chip microcomputer by Lineo.
"While there is no doubt that the one-chip microcomputer should take a vital and enormous role in realizing the ubiquitous network age, it is also true that there will be many applications that find difficulty in overcoming the hardware resource limitation of one-chip microcomputer with Linux," said Yoshinobu Ushiyama, President and CEO, Lineo Solutions, Inc. "In order to provide practical solutions to overcome such situations, we had been developing 'Lineo uBooster', a POSIX compliant micro RT kernelby bringing together the embedded system know-how acquired through years of experiences.
"Network connectivity in the open air environment is becoming increasingly essential, and many of the outdoor installed devices, including network connective sensors and security/emergency monitoring devices, require to be operable in severe temperatures ranged from minus 20 degrees centigrade to 80 degrees centigrade. In such cases, the use of one-chip microcomputer with temperature-guaranteed RAM and POSIX compliant micro real-time kernel solutions that have high affinity with Linux is very much awaited. One-chip Solutions with Lineo uBooster can provide ready to deploy means to solve various problems such as reliable network connectivity, operability under severe temperature conditions, and lowering of the cost of the devices development and system installation, and contribute to accelerate the realization of true ubiquitous network age.", said Takafumi Matsunaga, General Manager, MCU Business Unit.
The Lineo uBooster is developed with strong focus on the high affinity with Linux.
It provides not only ultra-compact footprint and high-speed boot that were considered difficult to attain with embedded Linux but also the benefits of Linux, POSIX-compliant scalability and TCP/IP, network capability.
The Lineo uBooster Starter Package for H8S is the first release of Lineo's proposal for One-Chip Solutions to provide time-to-market for OEM in developing devices with ease and speed, and packaged as a total evaluation kit consists of uBooster and Lineo original reference board system with a Renesas Technology's H8S series of one-chip microcomputer.
