Lineo Joins CE Linux Forum (CELF)

Tokyo, November 9, 2003 - Lineo Solutions, Inc., a leading provider of embedded Linux solutions, today announced that it has been accepted for membership in the Consumer Electronics Linux Forum (CELF), an industry organization founded by leading consumer electronics device manufacturers in July 2003 to implement and enhance Linux for consumer electronics devices including audio-visuals, mobile phones, and etc., as well as to promote the use of the Linux in variety of embedded devices.

So it is highly significant that Lineo has been welcomed as a member of CELF and is able to make specific contributions toward the realization of ubiquitous network age together with major global companies in the industry. In adherence with the open source spirit, we will give full support on activities of CELF.” said Yoshinobu Ushiyama, CEO and president, Lineo Solutions, Inc. In June 2003, Lineo has released "Lineo uLinux", which offers compact footprint, quick boot, power-saving, real-time, improved memory management and more. Lineo uLinux is perfect for consumer electronics devices, as well as for communication/control devices. Then in July 2003, Lineo has begun shipping "Lineo uLinux ELITE", powerful integrated cross-development environment for consumer electronics devices, including digital appliances and PDAs.



CE Linux Forum
In December 2002, Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. and Sony Corporation announced their intention of collaboration to advance applications of Linux in consumer electronics devices. Then, Hitachi, Ltd., NEC Corporation, Royal Philips Electronics, Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., Sharp Corporation and Toshiba Corporation joined the effort to form consortium. On July 1, 2003, these 8 companies founded CELF in Silicon Valley and immediately started its activities.
