LINEO ANNOUNCES ALLIANCE WITH MEDIAQ
Develop Embedded Linux for ARM9 Evaluation Board
|
TOKYO, June 30, 2003 - Lineo Solutions, Inc. ("Lineo", Headquarters/Engineering Center: Shiojiri, Nagano, Japan, CEO&President: Yoshinobu Ushiyama), a leading provider of embedded Linux, today announced an alliance with MediaQ, Inc. ("MediaQ", Headquarters: Santa Clara, California, USA, CEO&President: Elie Antoun), a leading developer of multimedia platform controllers for handheld devices. Lineo will develop/sell embedded Linux for the evaluations boards of MediaQ, as well as jointly operate sales/marketing activities with them.
According to the alliance, a product Lineo develops for MediaQ will be marketed as a Board Support Package (BSP) for MQ9000-Katana. The MQ9000-Katana will be added in Lineo uLinux ELITE (ELITE), Lineo's embedded Linux cross development environment to be released on July 14th, 2003. Lineo will demonstrate the ELITE and BSP at the Embedded Systems Expo & Conference in Tokyo (ESEC) to be held from July 9 to 11.
"As embedded Linux extends power over more and more devices, Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) has become a prioritized area for Lineo," said Yoshinobu (Yogi) Ushiyama, CEO, Lineo Solutions, Inc. "Based on the past achievement of embedded Linux on PDAs, we've been working quite positively with cellphones, digital video cameras and such. Among all those developments and efforts, we highly value the uLinux for ARM9/MQ9000 that is developed by alliance with MediaQ, as a product in our strategic field."
"We are very excited to work with Lineo because they have great experiences and achievements in the market," said Manish Singh, VP of Marketing, MediaQ, Inc. "Their new product 'Lineo uLinux ELITE' is quite intelligent and flexible, that I believe it will meet various demands of the customers who wish to adopt embedded Linux. We've developed MQ9000 as low-power/hi-performance SOC product, and will focus on it as a main CPU for PDAs and cellphones. We are looking forward to start a new Linux business with Lineo, as a good partner in the market."
